Have you ever had this thought?   “I’m a Christian now, so why do I still feel so awful and act the way I do? Seems like nothing’s really changed.”  I think most believers have had the same thought.  That’s because when you were saved, your spirit was reborn or made new instantly, but your soul, (mind, will, heart, and emotions) is in the process of transformation.

The soul realm is the part of you in which your self-worth has been established, and where other heartfelt beliefs about yourself reside.  And it’s those beliefs that are affecting your behavior, successes and failures, prosperity, relationships, health and much more (3 John 2).

Think of your soul like this.  It’s like there are two hard drives in your human computer.  The “Mind” drive is the mind and intellect and the “Heart” drive is the heart and emotions.  These two hard drives are totally segregated and don’t share data.

The strategy of the enemy is to load the “Heart” drive with as many viruses as possible, while the “Mind” drive is totally unaware of these.  When the “Mind” drive has a malfunction due to a virus, it tries to solve the problem independently of the “Heart” drive, the viral source.  It may manufacture a temporary fix but in the long run it always fails.  Another way of saying this is: until the deep lies (viruses) in the heart are removed and replaced with truth, the heart virus will continue to infect the mind, and the external behavior.

So the question is, how do I rid my heart of the virus when I’m not even sure what it is or how to access it?

Many Christians spend hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars with counselors in an attempt to be free of their past and change how they see themselves.  But, rather than eliminating the root problems, most times they simply learn to mask, manage or cope with external behaviors.  Feelings of worthlessness, failure, self-judgments, guilt and more still remain hidden deep inside, and sooner or later they reemerge in the same (or worse) negative or self-destructive behavior.

In no way am I suggesting that all counseling is bad.  However, if the human counselor is trying to affect change only through convincing your mind of the truth while leaving the heart lie (virus) in place, it will never work.  You need hear the voice of the One with the power to change the heart, remove the lie, and set you free through receiving the truth.  In Isaiah 9:6 He is called the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.

Even Jesus, when He was on Earth, understood the source of His power.  In John 5:19 we read, “Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father doing: for what thing soever he doeth, these the Son also does in like matter.”

There is only one ministry on this planet, and that is the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ.  He is the wonderful counselor; He is the minister; He is the healer; He is the only one who can restore the soul and heal the heart.

The understanding of this principle is at the core of all Ancient Paths Seminars. Find one near you.
