Are You The Good Samaritan?

Transcript

Luke 10:30-37 Jesus replied and said a man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among robbers and they stripped him and beat him and went away leaving him half dead and by chance a priest was going down on that road and when he saw him he passed by on the other side likewise a Levite also and when he came to the place and saw him passed by on the other side but a Samaritan who was on a journey came upon him and when he saw him he felt compassion and came to him and bandaged up his wounds pouring oil and wine on them and he put him on his own beast and brought him to an inn and took care of him on the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said take care of him and whatever more you spend when I return I will repay you Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands and he said the one who showed mercy toward him then Jesus said to him Go and do the same when we hear that story we call it the good Samaritan everyone of us thinks I’m the good Samaritan I want to be the good Samaritan I read that once a few years ago the Holy spirit said to me you’re not the good Samaritan the reason why is you over book your time every single day of your life you would pass by on the other side simply due to fact that you have no time to stop the best you can ever do is take your cell phone out and call 911 to go help the man but you’re late for everything you do you live with no margins in your life you couldn’t help any body and I thought you know God that is true that was really convicting to me and I just learned the concept of meekness and meekness means having margins meekness means having great power resource or authority and voluntarily choosing to limit your use to only a percentage of available resource and God said to me you have no margins you don’t live a lifestyle of meekness you can’t help anybody because you’re overbooked and I began meditating on that and I realized this do you know why the Samaritan could help the man who was hurt he was meek he had some extra time to stop and see what was wrong he had some extra capacity on his donkey if it were like today most businessmen would load their donkey down to within one straw of breaking you wouldn’t be able to put one extra pound on that donkey without crushing him not so with the Samaritan he was meek in his transportation he had extra room on his donkey for the man he had some extra time he had some extra room on his transportation he got to the Inn and he apparently had some extra money because he spent his own money said to the Inn keeper here I have some money please use it take care of the man and apparently he also had relational credit with the Inn keeper he said if it costs more just spend it and I will pay you the next time I come put it on my account apparently he had relational credit with the Inn keeper the Inn Keeper didn’t say to him you didn’t pay me for the last time 3 times you said that no he had credit with the Inn keeper he had margins in his relationships margins in his money margins in his time margins in his transportation the good Samaritan had margins and that’s what enabled him to help the man and this was the revelation to me if you don’t live a lifestyle of meekness and you have no margins you can’t help anybody you’re stressed out all the time you’re going to just be running trying to keep up paying your bills trying to keep up doing all the things that you need to do everyday and you may think you’re a victim of circumstances but I’m here to tell you that is not the truth nobody put a gun to your head and forced you to borrow money nobody put a gun to your head and forced you to over commit your time we choose to do that it’s our choice and then we live under all kinds of stress and marriages break up families are destroyed people declare bankruptcy all these consequences people get sick they destroy their body and end up with horrible kind of self destructive diseases and problems in their health which then costs them more money its just a cycle that goes around and around so who’s truly the good Samaritan the one who has margins what’s my point today ask God God in what area do I have no margins in what area is it not possible for me to be the good Samaritan even if I had all the good intentions in the world I couldn’t do it because I have no margins so I pray today that today would be your day to establish margins at least in one area of your life to ask God God where do I need to set some boundaries establish some margins what changes do you want me to make let’s just pray that right now Father what changes do you want me to make in my life to establish margins so that I really could help somebody in need so that I could be the good Samaritan like I really want to in my heart Father show me what areas and I commit I’ll make those changes in the name of Yeshua Amen
