Bless Me, Even Me Oh My Father!

Transcript

Genesis 27:30-34 now it came about as soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob and Jacob had hardly gone out from the presence of Isaac his father that Esau his brother came in from his hunting then he also made savory food and brought it to his father and he said to his father let my father arise and eat of his son’s game that you may bless me Isaac his father said to him Who are you? and he said I am your son your firstborn, Esau then Isaac trembled violently and said who was he then that hunted game and brought it to me so that I ate of all of it before you came, and blessed him? Yes, and he shall be blessed and when Esau heard the words of his father he cried out with an exceedingly great and bitter cry, and said to his father bless me, even me also, O my father we find something so powerful in this concept of blessing that I think most of us don’t understand in this day this story we just read about Esau and Jacob when I first read it I was a little bit mystified why was Esau so angry because he didn’t get his father’s blessing He was later in this chapter willing to kill his brother because of what his brother stole from him and Jacob was so intensely wanting that blessing that he was willing to cheat, to lie to deceive, to steal what was so important about that just to have your father say God bless you we use that phrase all the time why is that so powerful what this family understood is that blessing is not just words God bless you there’s a spiritual impartation that comes from a father and mother that causes the soul of a person to prosper we find that Jewish people tend to prosper all over the world probably more than almost any other group of people not only financially but in business in education, in their finances in their health in their families, in the film industry in so many areas why is that I think the reason is Jewish people know how to bless their children in a way that most others don’t but we could we could do the same one tradition that Jewish people have I think is so powerful they take one day a week Shabbat, Friday night have a meal together and after dinner the husband blesses his wife then together the father and mother bless each one of their children with a powerful blessing which they speak in Hebrew or in their native language or both and they impart vision to their children and I believe that’s one of the reasons children from Jewish families prosper in adult life you could do the very same thing in your family why not every Shabbat every Friday night why not have dinner together and impart blessing to your children this power of a parent’s blessing I wrote book by that title The Power of a Parent’s Blessing we talked about seven critical times when God intended for there to be an impartation of blessing most people don’t even know what the seven times are if you don’t know what they are it’s not very likely that you’d be able to impart that to your children I talked about that in that book if you don’t know what those seven times are I encourage you to get a hold of that go through a blessing generations seminar allow God to impart to you those seven critical times of blessing that you might have missed from your parents one family, one friend of mine got a revelation of this realized that his dad who was 65 years old had never been blessed invited his grandfather who was 87 years old to attend the birthday celebration of his father’s 65th birthday and he had a special request, he said Grandpa would you bless my father and release him into his manhood on the 65th birthday the 65 year old man was going through a divorce his wife had separated from him they had been separated for 9 months the wife had just announced I’m not coming back, I want a divorce the 87 year old grandfather did fly to that city and on the 65th birthday he imparted his blessing to his son he said son I’m proud of you I love you I bless you it was so life changing for that 65 year old son that 2 weeks later his wife moved back home and said cancel the divorce she said I don’t know what happened to him but this is the man I thought I married 65 years ago or for all of our married life about 45 years He’s lacked confidence He’s been angry and blamed me for things that weren’t my fault but now that has completely changed and this is the man I want to live the rest of my life with cancel divorce they had a tremendous ministry to other couples after that that is the power of a parent’s blessing that’s what Isaac had to give to his sons Esau and Jacob and still in the heart of many people today is what I call the cry of Esau bless me, even me, O my father as you think back about your relationship with your father was there a time or many times when your father imparted blessing to you I love you, I’m proud of you told you good things about you for many of us there wasn’t that’s why we have the blessing generations seminar to help people receive from God what they perhaps never did receive from their earthly father here’s something that you can practice starting right now with your own family why not on Shabbat on Friday night have dinner together after dinner bless your wife if you’re married if you have children look each one of your children in the eyes tell them you love them you’re proud of them special things about them give them scripture prophesy over them impart vision to them and bless them I encourage you to do that everyday if you’d begin to bless your own family bless people around you if you’ll love God with all your heart bless the people around you you’ll make an incredible impact and difference in this world
