Job 13:15-18 though He slay me I will hope in Him nevertheless I will argue my ways before Him this also will be my salvation for a godless man may not come before His presence listen carefully to my speech and let my declaration fill your ears behold now I have prepared my case I know I will be vindicated I hear quoted all the time by preachers various people though He slay me yet will serve Him and that is preached as though it were a righteous statement that’s half a verse we just read the whole thing most people don’t know what follows that very interesting if you look at the second half of the verse though He slay me yet will I hope in Him nevertheless I will argue my ways before Him and this will be my salvation what will be his salvation according to job arguing his ways before God this is not a righteous statement this is the epitome of self righteousness this is a man who is angry, hurt, wounded the enemy came and destroyed him the enemy is the one who comes to steal kill and destroy this is what happened to Job the favorite strategy of the enemy is to turn that around twist it and say God did that to you God allowed that to happen God is the one who isn’t helping you and this is what Job believes in the depths of his heart but in Job’s mind he’s very religious he’s trying to be so righteous though He slay me yet will I serve Him nevertheless I’m going to argue my ways before Him and this also will be my salvation do you think Job arguing his ways before God is going to be his salvation not likely do you see what he’s saying he is saying basically God is the one who punishes me God is the one who’s tormented me He’s killed my family members He’s made me sick God is this horrible evil being and I come to try to argue with Him and He won’t listen to me being the righteous man that I am even if He kills me I will still serve Him because I am righteous but nevertheless I’m going to argue my ways before Him and when I find Him and I catch up with Him and I can explain my ways then He will have to repent and I shall be vindicated this is what he’s saying this is not a righteous statement this is not something to emulate this is the epitome of self righteousness this is from a man who’s been severely deceived by the enemy doesn’t know that he’s full of anger and hatred and bitterness toward God shaking his fist at God and proclaiming even if He kills me I’ll still maintain my integrity but I will argue my case before Him and I will be vindicated what does it mean all of us are like that left unto ourselves all of us have a case against God all of us think we know better than God about our life we think we know better than God what ought to be going on and all of us have a part on the inside that says God I don’t think you’re doing a very good job of running the universe today especially as it concerns me that attitude will not change anything in your life it will just dig a deeper and deeper hole it’s pushing God away it’s resisting His grace it’s resisting His love what Job is doing here is resisting the love and grace of God what does it mean today you have an opportunity to come before the LORD and say God I can see in this particular area of my life I’ve been blaming you in this particular area of my life I’ve been resisting you in this particular area of my life I felt like you wronged me like you hurt me and God today I want to repent and that’s my question today in what area of your life do you need to repent ask God to forgive you for blaming Him for the works of the enemy blaming Him for the disappointments for the evil that people have done against you for circumstances that occurred that were beyond your control and you closed your heart to God and became angry today is your day to repent to change that not carry on in this attitude that Job had Job had to go through many more chapters of the book before he came to the place where he was delivered where he finally emptied himself and quit shaking his fist at God and came before God in humility in the end he said I have heard of you by the hearing of the ear but now my eye sees you therefore I repent, I retract in dust and ashes today is your day to do that I want to just pray for you I pray today that God would show you what areas in your own heart you’ve been blaming Him you’ve been pushing Him away you’ve been angry at Him you’ve been wanting God to repent and change would you just speak this Father today I repent I ask you to forgive me you’re my only source of help comfort, deliverance, freedom forgive me God I come before you with nothing to offer LORD I desperately need your grace in my life today in Jesus name Amen
