David’s Covenant Kindness to Jonathan’s Son

Transcript

2 Samuel 9:1 and verses 6-10 then David said is there yet anyone left of the house of Saul that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake? verse 6 Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan the son of Saul came to David, and fell on his face and prostrated himself and David said, Mephibosheth and he said, here is your servant David said to him do not fear for I will surely show kindness to you for the sake of your father Jonathan and will restore to you all the land of your Grandfather Saul and you shalt eat at my table regularly again he prostrated himself and said what is your servant that you should regard a dead dog like me then the king called Saul’s servant Ziba and said to him all that belonged to Saul and to all his house I have given to your master’s grandson you, and your sons, and your servants shall cultivate the land for him and you shall bring in the produce so that your master’s grandson may have food nevertheless Mephibosheth your master’s grandson shall eat at my table regularly now Ziba had 15 sons and 20 servants this is an amazing story of David’s covenant faithfulness to a man named Mephibosheth Jonathan’s son what we see here is David picturing as a prophetic image on earth God’s love for His people David says in verse 1 is there any one left of the house of Saul that I might show kindness to him for Jonathan’s sake, why is that because David and Jonathan made a covenant you may remember there was a little boy named Mephibosheth who was Jonathan’s son you can see back in chapter 4 when news came that Saul had died and Jonathan had been killed all his household was killed he was no longer King and David was going to be King that struck terror in all the remaining children and grandchildren of Saul and Jonathan because normally what would happen in that day if you were the progeny the children of the former King and a new King was coming you know what they would usually do kill every one of the children grandchildren, great grandchildren of the former King to make sure none of them would ever rise up and try to re assume the throne so they would be killed so this little boy 5 years old heard David is coming to town you better leave and His nurse in her hurry dropped him he was crippled in his feet and spent the rest of his days out in a place called Lo Debar Lo Debar means no greenery nothing green he lived in a desert place and I imagine everyday he cursed David everyday those around him said it’s David’s fault that you’re crippled it’s David’s fault that you live out here and he lives in a palace you should live in the palace your grandfather was the King but now David has taken his place and you live out here and what Mephibosheth didn’t realize is that all the time he was hating David blaming David for all of his problems David loved him for the sake of covenant with Jonathan David was saying is there any of the family left of Saul that I might show them kindness for Jonathan’s sake they said there’s one little boy that’s grown up his name is Mephibosheth and he lives out in the wilderness David said get him, bring him to me I want to restore to him everything that his father would have had and David brought him in you can see Mephibosheth was scared to death he said what is a dead dog like me that has come before you I’m sure he was certain that David was going to publicly humiliate him and kill him but instead David showed him kindness this is a picture of God’s heart for people Yahweh the Father says is there anybody left of the household of my Son Yeshua that I might bless them for the sake of the covenant that was made by His blood and the answer is yes there are many of us and the Father says come I want to give to you everything that Jesus my son deserves I want to give to you everything that He didn’t have in His earthly life He purchased and it’s yours I want to give it to you I want you to come and dine at my table this is what David said to Mephibosheth don’t live in the wilderness anymore from now on you will eat at the King’s table everything that would have been your father’s is restored I want you to live in the palace with me rather than killing the children of the former King because of a covenant that was made between David and Jonathan David shows kindness to Mephibosheth and this is such an awesome prophetic picture of the heart of God the Father for every one of us I pray that today that you would get a revelation of God’s heart for you that He loves you that you’re just like Mephibosheth He wants to bring you to His table and maybe you’ve been like Mephibosheth in your heart blaming God for things that didn’t work in your life angry with God today would you let that go and get the revelation that Mephibosheth got David loves me he’s not against me he’s for me God your Father loves you he’s not against you He’s for you would you let that dwell richly in your heart today as you walk through your day and remember love God with all your heart bless people around you give to them, serve them tell them about the LORD and you will make a difference
