Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Hear, O Israel

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 hear O Isreal the Lord is our God the Lord is one you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart with all your soul and with all your might these words which I am commanding you today shall be on your heart you shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house when you walk by the way when you lie down and when you rise up you shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead you shall write them on your doorposts of your house and on your gates Shabbat Shalom what a wonderful scripture this is probably one of the most famous and well known verses in all of Torah Sh’ma Yisra’eil Adonai Eloheinu Adonai echad. hear O Israel the Lord our God the Lord is one and this is foundational this is powerful to understand that the Lord Yahweh God almighty He is THE God He alone is God there is no other we’re instructed here to teach this to our children only at these times these are the only times you need to teach these things to your children when you sit down when you walk when you lie down when you rise up in other words basically all the time what this means is let your life be absolutely consumed with God when I gave my life to the Lord in 1972 my life was consumed with God I just loved I couldn’t get enough of being around the Lord being around people that knew the Lord and loved the Lord and that has been from 1972 until today that has never left me I have been consumed with loving God walking with God being with God I was a little embarrassed I was with my son talking to a music manager a guy that managed bands and he was about my age and he was asking me about various bands that have been in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s what bands I like the fact of the matter was I didn’t know a single one of them because from the day I met the Lord I didn’t listen to any music except worship music music that exulted the Lord Jesus Christ music that had to do with God my life had been consumed with God and I believe that’s what this is talking about let your life be consumed with the one who is one with Yahweh God almighty impart that to your children when its talking about bind this on your hand on the frontals of your forehead some people, some Jewish people take that literally and they’ll take the word of God and literally put it on their head and on their forehead I think that what this is talking about is let your life be consumed with God with who God is all the time before your eyes on the doorposts of your house what does that mean? when you go out when you come in you think of God when you go out you thank God for what He’s about to do when you come back in you thank God for what He has done let your life be consumed with God yet let your life be filled with Him let Him be your life for some people and I don’t understand this myself there are people that just seem to call themselves Christians or call themselves followers and God is just some little tiny part of their life they’ve prayed some prayer once in church somewhere or another and somehow or another it didn’t take in the same way as what happened with me I’m not saying that to bring condemnation on anyone but what I’m saying is my prayer for you is that your life would be utterly consumed with who God is with what He’s doing He wouldn’t be a part of your life that He would be your life and that His life would flow out from you and touch everybody around you that’s how you bless people loving God with all your heart and letting that life of God flow out of you so Sh’ma Yisra’eil Adonai Eloheinu Adonai echad today on this Shabbat would you just spend the day worshiping the one who is worthy worshiping the one who has created the universe created you He’s worthy of our worship and our adoration He’s worthy of all the rest of our lives so God Bless you Shabbat Shalom
