Deuteronomy 18:9-13

Do Not Be Like the World Culture Around You

Deuteronomy 18:9-13 When you enter the land which the Lord your God gives you you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations there shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or is daughter pass through the fire one who uses divination one who practices witch craft or one who interprets omens or a sorcerer or one who casts a spell or a medium or a spiritist or one who calls up the dead for whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord and because of these detestable things the Lord your God will drive them out before you you shall be blameless before the Lord your God Shabbat Shalom we’re talking to day about some standards that God set for Israel the biggest struggle that I notice Israel had when we read all through Torah all through the word of God was they wanted continually to be like the nations around them and here are some detestable practices we might say I would never do things like that in our land today sorcery is common spiritism is common people are practicing witch craft all kinds of immorality is going on in the world around us and this is creeping in to the body of Messiah here’s the point Yahweh has not called us to be like the nations around us He has not called us to be like the culture around us sometimes there comes a time when it’s necessary to stand alone sometimes there comes a time when everybody around you is doing things that have become acceptable and I notice that what happens society moves slowly in its value changes it’s like boiling a frog in a kettle of water you know the old story if you put a frog which is a cold blooded animal in a kettle of water at room temperature it’s very happy if you just turn the temperature up 2 degrees every hour the frog simply changes its body temperature to match the water temperature never recognizes the danger and never jumps out of the pot I’ve never actually tried that but I’m told you could actually boil a frog alive by doing that if you change the temperature slowly enough I believe that’s the devil’s strategy for our culture he just changes it a little bit, a little bit and so a very interesting thing that I find one of the things that people are so much against these days is judgement don’t judge me you shouldn’t judge anybody we are called not to judge people but to judge behavior and the standard is the word of God do you know what most people do is they create their own opinion as the standard and I notice this many times people say well that person is legalistic do you know who they call legalistic anybody whose moral standard is farther to the right of theirs and do you know who they call a compromiser anybody whose moral standard is farther to the left from theirs and the perfect moral standard is how I see it or how that person sees it that’s just human nature for all of us to do that we call people to the right legalistic and people to the left compromisers in reality it’s just the word of God is the standard and we need to adjust our life to be in accordance with the word of God so I encourage you today don’t be conformed to the world around you there may be specific things God is speaking to you about where you have pressure at work to do things a certain way that you know in your spirit are not right you may have pressure from friends around you to conform to certain things that you realize no this is not right I encourage you don’t judge people don’t condemn people but we’re definitely called to hold standards in behavior don’t let your standards slip let the word of God be your standard and continue to uphold what God says is truth to uphold what God says is the right standard and walk in that if you do that people will not feel condemned around you if you love God with all your heart and you may get your business to bless people around you while upholding a godly standard people will be attracted to you and I pray that today and this week that an anointing and a grace will come upon you to uphold God’s standards but to love people and let them feel acceptance and love and value all around you while upholding God’s standards
