1 Corinthians 15:26-29 the last enemy that will be abolished is death for he has put all things in subjection under his feet but when he says all things are put in subjection it’s evident that he is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him when all things are subject to Him then the Son Himself will also be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him so that God will be all in all otherwise what will those do who are baptized for the dead if the dead are not raised at all then why are they baptized for them I don’t know if you’ve ever wondered about that scripture I did for years what on earth is He talking about baptizing for the dead I know there are certain people that think it’s important to baptize people that have died baptize for the dead based on this scripture and other scriptures in Peter but what is He talking about I never knew until my wife Jan did some research came to me just recently and said I know what He’s talking about and she shared this with me this is the coolest thing and here’s what it is what she discovered through her research is that in the times of Yeshua and the times of Paul that Jewish people would prepare a dead body for burial and the way they would do it is they would wash that body in a mikveh preparing it for burial why, because they expected a resurrection so they would prepare the body they would wash the body in a mikveh and that word to ceremonially wash the body in preparation for a mikveh is translated here baptism so what everybody knew in that day is that yes of course when a person dies what you do you prepare that body for burial you’re going to clean it up you’re going to wash it you’re going to do the mikveh ceremony to ceremonially cleanse the body why? so when that person is resurrected from the dead and their body is raised their body will be clean and have been washed so of course you baptize the corpse not for the purpose of salvation for the purpose of cleansing and preparing for resurrection and so what Paul is talking about here is something that everybody in that culture in that day knew some people were saying well the dead aren’t raised He said they why on earth if you don’t believe the dead aren’t raised why on earth would you wash a body take it through a ceremonial washing a mikveh which is translated here baptism and see being Christians many many people think well what He’s talking about is you’re supposed to baptize them like we’d baptize somebody when they’re born again no, no, no has nothing to do with that this is not for the purpose of salvation we don’t need to baptize dead people that have already passed on no what He’s talking about here is the ceremonial washing and preparation for resurrection here’s what I want you to know out of this the purpose of what we’re talking about that’s just sort of a cool fact to understand what that is so that you wouldn’t ever think we’re supposed to baptize people that have already died but here’s what I want you to know you’re an eternal being you’re going to live in eternity if you’ve been forgiven of your sin by the blood of Yeshua you’ll live in eternity with God if you haven’t been entered into that covenant then you’ll live in eternity separated from God in hell that’s not a good thing I encourage you receive Jesus receive Yeshua Ha Mashiach enter into that covenant live eternally with God but here’s what’s important eternity’s long life is short I encourage you to begin to live in eternity today what does that mean? let everyday count for eternity do things today that 100 years from now you’ll look back and say I’m glad I behaved that way that day I’m glad I sowed that seed that day I’m glad I did those things that day a thousand years from now you’ll look back and you’ll say I lived my life to make everyday count for eternity not just to count for the next 10 years, or the next 15 years or 20 years or some period of time no let’s live in eternity today make every day count eternity is long life is short make today count for the kingdom of God God bless you
