Deuteronomy 34:9-12 Now Joshua the son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom for Moses had laid his hands on him and the sons of Israel listened to him and did as the LORD had commanded Moses since that time no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses whom the LORD knew face to face for all the signs and wonders which the LORD sent him to perform in the land of Egypt against Pharaoh all his servants and all his land and for all the mighty power and for all the great terror which Moses performed in the sight of all of Israel today is the feast of Sim Chat Torah Jewish people celebrate that all around the world Sim Chat Torah means rejoice in the Torah or what we’re talking about is rejoicing in the word of God rejoicing in what God has given us the Bible His word and today is a day to rejoice in that there’s something that Jewish people have that many other gentiles really lack and that is an awe and reverence for the word of God I was thinking of that movie fiddler on the roof recently remember Tevye the milkman and one of the most famous songs that he sang was if I were a rich man de de de de de de daba daba deba deba doom boom boom I just looked up some of the lyrics for that and this is one of the main things that he said in that song he said if I were rich I’d have the time that I lacked to sit in the synagogue and pray and maybe have a seat by the eastern wall and I’d discuss the Holy books with the learned men several hours everyday ahhhhh that would be the sweetest thing of all what did he dream of what would he do as a wealthy man? study the word of God with the learned men 7 hours everyday that would be the sweetest thing of all I believe today is a day to rejoice in the word of God and to let the word dwell richly in your heart to say God thank you for your word to meditate on the word of God to thank God for His word this passage that we just read from Deuteronomy 34 it’s the last chapter in Deuteronomy last chapter in Torah it’s talking about the death of Moses Moses was an awesome man of God you know there’s two things about Moses that we know number one in verse 10 here Moses it says whom the LORD knew face to face God knew Moses in a way that very few people have been able to enter into and the second thing was of course Moses was the writer of Torah Moses was the one whom God used to write a lot of the word of God the first five books of the Bible so two things are powerful the word of God and face to face relationship with God and that’s what the LORD was speaking to me to share with you today that today is a day to draw close to God and say God would you give me that kind of face to face relationship that it might be said of me he was a man that knew God face to face or she was a woman who knew God face to face and a person who loved God’s word who’s dream would be to sit and discuss the word of God with the learned men 7 hours everyday like Tevye the milkman said in fiddler on the roof I just pray today God let that be our desire would you give everyone of us Father a hunger for your word a love for your word a desire to meditate on your word to walk in your word to let your word renew our minds and Father as we celebrate Sim Chat Torah today as we recognize today as rejoicing in your word in your Torah Father I pray that it might be a light unto our feet Father that you would guide us that you would direct us this day and let your word and a love for your word be strong within us today in the mighty name of Yeshua Amen
