God’s Covenant with Noah

Transcript

Genesis 9:11-17 I establish my covenant with you and all flesh shall never again be cut off by water of the flood neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth God said this is the sign of the covenant which I am making between me and you and every living creature that is with you for all successive generations I set my bow in the cloud and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between me and the earth and it shall come about when I bring a cloud over the earth that the bow will be seen in the cloud and I will remember my covenant which is between me and you and every living creature and all flesh and never again shall the water become a flood to destroy the earth when the bow is in the cloud then I will look upon it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth and God said to Noah this is the sign of the covenant which I’ve established between me and all flesh that is on the earth Shabbat Shalom! we’re looking at a covenant that God made with all of humanity at the time of Noah and He said I’ll never destroy all the earth again why is it that God destroyed all humanity except 8 people at that time I think one of the reasons we’ll go into this deeper at another time but one of the reasons is because of the Nephilim that were on the earth at that time Nephilim the Bible says were cross breeds in essence between fallen angels and women these were people with super human strength most of them had six fingers six toes they were I think really what probably most of the Greek and Roman gods were patterned after there was a reality there of giants in the land that maybe perhaps had super human powers but they had super human evil because they were birthed from fallen angels and evil had propagated itself so much throughout the earth that God chose to eliminate all of humanity at that time and we see Noah and 7 people who had none of that blood none of that DNA in them were the ones that were saved and God started over unfortunately the Bible tells us the Nephilim came again even after the flood what we see today is that God made a covenant with Noah I’ll never flood the earth again and God is 100% consistent with His character and His word He’ll always do exactly what He said if you ever hear there’s a world wide flood global flood coming you can know that’s not of God why is that? because God gave His word He will never ever do that again one thing I just want to reemphasize about covenant God is a covenant keeper He’s a God who keeps His word and here’s what it is in middle eastern context and the Bible was written by middle eastern men in a middle eastern context God infused His thoughts into their thoughts and the main thought about covenant was this a man would rather die before he breaks his word do you know today most men would rather break their word than miss lunch miss a meal our word is not important to us today but God’s word is extremely important to Him and as His followers and believers we want to make our word important to us too that we’re men and women of integrity that do what we have said honesty is conforming……. reality now let me get this right honesty is conforming your word to reality integrity is conforming reality to your word in other words I’ll do whatever it takes to fulfill my word and that’s the concept of covenant and God made a covenant with Noah that affects all of us important for us to understand that meditate upon this verse by the way the symbol of the rainbow has been stolen by countercultures by subcultures the rainbow is actually a symbol of God’s covenant with all of humanity that He loves you that He’s faithful to you that He means you no harm that it’s God’s purpose to bless you so remember that everytime you see a rainbow it’s reminiscent of God’s faithfulness to you that He loves you that He’s for you not against you and so today as you go through your day would you just bless other people love God with all your heart and you’ll make a difference in your environment
