Malachi 4:4-6

Restore Hearts of Fathers and Children

Malachi 4:4-6 remember the law of Moses My servant even the statutes and ordinances which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel behold I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD he will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse that is the last little passage in the old covenant the very end of Malachi what’s interesting to me is most people don’t connect verse 4 with verses 5 and 6 a lot of people know this passage I will send Elijah turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the children to the fathers they don’t connect it with verse 4 which says remember the law of Moses my servant I believe there’s a connection there the first thing is remember Torah remember Torah remember what God has said these are not just just things that Israel is supposed to do these are principles Olam ways of God remember the olam ways of God contained in Torah blessing is one of them blessing of your children remember these ways and walk in them if you remember the Torah you remember the ways of God and walk in these principles of God for example the principle of regular blessing it will turn the hearts of your children toward the father and the hearts of the father toward the children what’s really interesting it doesn’t say I will turn the hearts of the mother to the children it says I will turn the hearts of the father why the father not the mother and I found this in most families the hearts of most mothers is already turned toward their children it’s not usually that hard to get a mother to think about her children but the hearts of most fathers is turned toward their career turned toward their work toward external things it’s hard to capture the heart of a father I heard a story many many years ago Hall Mark greeting card company decided to do a card giveaway in a prison they brought a large number of cards for prisoners for Mother’s day and offered free Mother’s day cards for any of the inmates who wanted it they were cleaned out and they wished they would have brought 3 times as many cards Father’s day was just a month later they brought more twice as many Father’s day cards as they had Mother’s day cards because they ran out only 3 inmates wanted a Father’s day card why did everybody want a Mother’s day card nobody wanted a Father’s day card because apparently of all the inmates in that prison only 3 of them had a valid relationship with a father the others either didn’t know their father or hated the father that they knew what is the point the hearts of those fathers were not turned toward their children and the children were certainly not turned toward the fathers God gives mothers and fathers totally different roles there are two roles primarily of a mother her job is to birth and nurture her children the role of a father is to establish gender identity and release in destiny mothers always focus their children inward by in large fathers focus their children outward it’s even true if you look at people holding a baby in a congregation the mothers almost always hold the baby inward like this ohh sweet baby and the fathers many times hold the baby on the palm of their hand facing outward showing the baby to everybody showing the baby everything out there and that’s why God gave us both a mother and a father he intended for us to have an outward focus and an inward focus be released and launched into our destiny but yet covered and nurtured and cared for we’re meant to have both father and mother but in these days I believe we’re living in these days of Elijah God will turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers during this time I think it’s just critical to let your heart if your a father be turned back to your children and if you’ve been distanced from your father why not contact him why not reconcile with him let God do this work in your family of turning the heart of a father to the children and children to the fathers if you’re a father plan to bless your children once a week why not spend a time looking in your children’s eyes like Jewish people do every week every Erev Shabbat on evening of Shabbat looking in the eyes of their children blessing them speaking words of encouragement prophesying over them I encourage you to bless your children at least once a week look in their eyes tell them you love them tell them you’re proud of them if you’ve wounded them repent and ask forgiveness but bless your children once a week if you do that you’ll never lose the hearts of your children you’ll keep their hearts and they won’t have to be turned back to their fathers but your children’s hearts will be connected with you emotionally and you won’t lose them in teenage years I encourage you to do that so let’s just pray Father I pray for every family watching this today turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and turn the hearts of the children to their fathers Lord would you release a supernatural grace upon every family today Lord to have an emotional connection a spiritual connection and to establish blessing as a lifestyle in the family Father I pray that I pray that today for your family that your family would be a place of blessing I pray that in the mighty name of Yeshua Amen
