Philippians 4:1 therefore my beloved brethren whom I long to see my joy and crown in this way stand firm in the LORD, my beloved I was shocked when I first read that where Paul says you are my joy and crown that’s what he says to the Philippians I would have thought that Paul would say Yeshua is my joy and my crown but he didn’t say that he said to the people you are my joy and crown a people that he was called to minister to and you know what here’s the word for today make people your joy and your crown make it your business to serve people don’t serve money don’t serve an organization don’t serve a project don’t serve a business don’t serve things serve people every one of us were called to serve people that’s why God put us on planet earth He put us here to serve other people do you know when you stop serving people, that’s really when you die I was interested to find out there’s no Hebrew word for retirement what does that mean? not that we’re supposed to work endlessly what it means is this we were created to serve people the day you stop serving people you die now obviously you’re going to serve at 85 years old in a different way than you serve when you’re 45 years old but never stop serving people never stop loving people never stop using the gifts that God gave you the money that God gave you the life that God gave you to serve other people so make people your joy and your crown don’t make people your frustration you know why it is that a lot of times people are frustrated with other people we’re talking as we go along here five things that create stress and frustration in people’s lives here’s number 2 here’s the second thing that really creates a lot of stress and frustration and that is trying to change people do you know it’s not your job to change your kids that’s God’s job here’s the most amazing thing do you know what some Christian wives think that there job description is I’ve had people actually tell me this some Christian wives think their job is to change their husband into the man of God he’s supposed to be do you know what that’s not your job that’s the job of the Holy Spirit if you’re trying to change your husband all the time you’re going to be frustrated everyday if you’re trying to change your wife all the time you’re going to be frustrated everyday make people around you, your joy and your crown what does that mean? that means focus on the good things in their lives focus on the things that they do right who do you tell about all the things they do wrong don’t tell your husband all the things he does wrong don’t tell your wife all the things she does wrong tell God those things he’s able to change them you’re not so make people your joy and your crown don’t try to change people just bless people around you God will change them so trying to change people that creates lots of tension lots of frustration it’s not your job it’s God’s job and I’ll tell you what your job… if you’re a wife your job is to fill your husband with respect that’s what Ephesians 5:33 I say fill up his fuel tank with respect if you’re a husband your job is to fill the fuel tank of your wife with love fill your children’s fuel tank with love your job is not to change everybody around you so again Paul said my beloved brethren whom I long to see my joy and my crown make your family your joy and your crown make the people that you employ your joy and your crown make the people that you serve in your congregation your joy and your crown if you do that and you let God change them you bless them you’ll walk through life with a lot of joy if you try to change them all the time you’ll walk through life with a lot of frustration so today let people around you be your joy and your crown God bless you
