Zephaniah 1:7-9

Don’t Step on the Threshold

Transcript

Zephaniah 1:7-9 be silent before the Lord God for the day of the LORD is near for the LORD has prepared a sacrifice He has consecrated His guests then it will come about on the day of the LORD’S sacrifice that I will punish the princes the king’s sons and all who clothe themselves with foreign garments and I will punish on that day all who leap on the temple threshold who fill the house of their lord with violence and deceit this is talking about the day of the LORD but I want to talk about this peculiar imagery of leaping on the temple threshold what does that mean and you might have already got a sense of threshold covenant this is talking about trampling underfoot blood that’s poured out on a threshold as we understand the threshold covenant so the concept of threshold covenant just to review again what it is what it means is this in ancient times particularly in the middle east when a host would invite a guest to come into his home if he wanted to honor that guest he would pour out a blood sacrifice at the threshold of his door there was always a little basin actually in the door it’s very interesting in the Hebrew language the word caph is translated sometimes threshold and sometimes basin in English I was wondering why is it sometimes threshold sometimes basin and it’s because there was always a little basin in the threshold of the door to collect the blood that was poured out as a sacrifice at the threshold so if you’re coming to my home I pour out blood to invite you to step across and your job is to step across the blood because the blood represents my life the greatest insult you could ever convey to me as a host is if you step in the blood it’s like spitting in my face it’s saying this is what I think of your life this is what I think of the sacrifice you’ve poured out and of course this is the imagery used in Hebrews 10 that talks about sinning willfully after having received knowledge of the truth we’re trampling underfoot the blood of Messiah Yeshua and insulting the spirit of grace obviously not a good thing so what is this talking about here this is talking about the day of the LORD and we see the same imagery used at the time of Passover at the time of Calvary when blood of Messiah was poured out and again when the LORD returns the coming of the LORD called the day of the LORD He will pass through the land and again look to see where blood is poured out on our lives where we’ve received the blood of Messiah so Yahweh came to Israel at Passover in Egypt and blood was poured out at that time then Yeshua came to invite us to step across the threshold into our Father’s eternal tabernacle by His blood and the third image of this very same imagery being used is the day of the LORD when the great King will once again come and He will look for the blood that’s poured out on your life now those who leap on the threshold those are the people who despise the blood of Messiah that’s been poured out for them those are the ones who step in the blood who refuse to be forgiven by the blood of Messiah who refuse the blood of Jesus there’s an outpouring of blood at the threshold of God’s eternal tabernacle we’re invited to step across by the blood of Messiah when we do that we’re born again we enter into the new covenant but those who reject the shed blood of Messiah are stepping in His blood those who refuse to receive what He has poured out are stepping in that blood and this scripture says that judgement will come to them they will be punished on the day of the LORD those who leap on the temple threshold what does that mean those who trample underfoot the blood of Messiah Yeshua that reject His blood judgement will come to them so the critical key is to come in to the tabernacle of Yahweh of God Almighty by the blood of Messiah repenting for your sin asking forgiveness being forgiven by the blood of Messiah have you allowed the blood of Messiah to forgive you or are you still trying to pay for your own sin the critical key is to step into the tabernacle of God by the blood of Messiah not stepping on the threshold stepping across the threshold being forgiven so today have you entered into that covenant I know many of us have I have many many decades ago actually but I’d like to pray for anybody watching today If you have never stepped across that threshold you’ve never said Jesus, Yeshua I want you to direct my life from this day forward I give you the rest of my life 100% of my life I give up everything I step across that threshold today forgive me for the past forgive me for my sin if you’ve never said that would you just speak this prayer with me right now let’s just pray this and even if you’ve prayed it before this is a good prayer to just reaffirm your covenant with Him let’s pray this Father God just speak these words right now with me Father God thank you for the blood of Messiah Yeshua Lord I don’t want to leap upon the threshold and trample that blood underfoot Lord I step across the threshold today I ask you to forgive me for all of my sin thank you that Messiah Yeshua paid for my sin today I receive your forgiveness and affirm it again LORD I want to walk with you in your Kingdom for the rest of my life I give you permission to do whatever you want to do with the rest of my life and I trust you with my future in Yeshua’s name Amen
