Exodus 19:16-20 so it came about on the third day when it was morning that there were thunder and lightning flashes and a thick cloud upon the mountain and a very loud trumpet sound so that all the people who were in the camp trembled and Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God and they stood at the foot of the mountain now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the LORD descended upon it in fire and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace and the whole mountain quaked violently when the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder Moses spoke and God answered him with thunder the LORD came down on Mount Sinai to the top of the mountain and the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain and Moses went up Shabbat Shalom this is an awesome awesome scripture that is talking about a marriage and there’s so much imagery in this this is talking about the wedding of Yahweh and Israel it’s also talking about the future wedding of Messiah and His bride that’s us the wedding supper of the Lamb that will be in the future that’s all foreshadowed in this passage and it’s just incredible what we see actually if we go back here to verse 5 verse 5 is the actual Ketubah it’s the wedding contract between Yahweh and Israel Verse 5 says now then if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant you shall be my own possession among all the peoples for all the earth is mine and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a Holy nation Yahweh is saying you will be mine, my possession you’ll be my bride you’ll be the one I will pour all my time and all my energy into that really is in essence what Jewish people think of as a Ketubah a wedding contract a wedding proposal and then it’s very interesting down in verse 16 the third day Yahweh called Moses to bring the bride so who is Moses Moses here is pictured as the friend of the bridegroom actually we see John the Baptist using this exact same language in John 3:27-30 when they asked him who are you he said I’m not Messiah I’m the friend of the bridegroom I’m the one who’s preparing the way for the groom to come who is Moses, the one who’s escorting and bringing the bride to the groom who’s the groom, Yahweh is the groom Israel the people are the bride and Moses is the friend of the bridegroom who’s delivering the people to the groom so we see in verse 16 the third day does that sound familiar to anything that we know in the new covenant of course Yeshua rose on the third day and this is actually the time of Shavuot Shavuot is the time when Moses received the 10 Commandments or the 10 teachings on the mountain the time of Shavuot Shavuot also happens to be the feast of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was poured out so we see in verse 16 Moses the friend of the bridegroom is bringing the bride to the groom then we see in verse 17 he’s pictured as the friend of the bridegroom verse 18 we see that let me just turn the page here so I can get to page 18 pardon me verse 18 Mount Sinai was all in smoke the Lord descended upon it in fire it’s interesting on Shavuot He descended in fire what happened on Pentecost many years later the exact same Moed the exact same time, or appointed time tongues of fire came at the time of Pentecost so we say this foreshadowed right here in verse 18 Shavuot is foreshadowing Pentecost fire is descending and then in verse 19 there’s a loud trumpet blast when will we see a loud trumpet blast again upon the coming of Messiah again there will be a loud trumpet blast and again the wedding will be prepared for Yeshua Messiah and His bride the called out ones, His followers, us the bride of Messiah so the Torah basically Torah is a part of the Ketubah this is just such powerful imagery when you look at all of this of the imagery of the marriage of Yahweh and Israel foreshadowing Messiah and His bride the wedding supper of the Lamb all this initiated on Shavuot the Moed the feast of Shavuot and then another foreshadowing in Pentecost all talking about the conclusion at the end of this age not the end of all ages but the end of this age when the wedding supper of the Lamb will take place I am so excited looking forward to that and that’s what we see in this passage of Torah that we’re reading on this Shabbat I hope that excites you as much as it does me I encourage you read that again study that look at the imagery of the wedding there of Israel and Yahweh coming together as one and Israel will be His people and of course we are God’s people we’re grafted in by the blood of Messiah to that bride that will one day enter into that wedding supper of the Lamb as well so Shabbat Shalom enjoy your day of rest and refreshing time with the Lord and your family God bless you
