The Father’s Heart to Answer Our Requests

Transcript

Luke 11:5-10 then He said to them suppose one of you has a friend and goes to him at midnight and says to him friend, lend me three loaves for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey and I have nothing to set before him and from inside he answers and says do not bother me the door has already been shut and my children and I are in bed I cannot get up and give you anything I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend yet because of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs so I say to you ask, and it will be given to you seek, and you will knock Pardon me, seek and you will find knock, and it will be opened to you for everyone who asks, receives and he who seeks, finds and to him who knocks it will be opened I have heard this taught wrongly all of my christian life and God gave me a revelation actually I heard a teaching on this it was at Moody Bible Institute and somebody exposed this I looked it up for myself and sure enough this is true this is not a parable that is about persistence this is not about if you beat the door down God really doesn’t want to give to you but He finally will that’s how this is normally taught this could not be farther from the truth that is not at all what Yeshua is talking about as a matter of fact what was always baffling to me is the first paragraph is completely the opposite of the second one seemingly here the first part is you have to beat on the door and this man doesn’t want to give you anything but if you beat on the door long enough he’ll finally open it and give it to you and then Yeshua says so I say ask and it will be given seek and you will find knock and it will be opened everyone who asks receives what is this talking about in the second part it seems like the Father is willing to give to everybody freely but in the first part you got to beat the door down here’s what I discovered there’s some things that are not normally understood in this when he starts out in verse 5 He said to them suppose one of you has a friend or another translation says who among you would have a friend and go to him at midnight and say friend lend me three loaves so what Yeshua is saying is not that anyone would do this He’s saying who has a friend who would do this it’s a rhetorical question the answer being, nobody no one would do this who has a friend who when he goes at midnight and says lend me three loaves because somebody has come on a journey and I have nothing to give him what friend would say I’m in bed, my children are asleep go away I’m not giving you anything what friend would say that that’s what he is saying the answer is nobody nobody would have a friend like that here would be the modern day analogy in those days you wouldn’t know when a visitor was coming you might have received a letter that they were coming or maybe you had no communication but covenant hospitality implies that when a visitor comes you must receive him you must have a feast you must prepare a meal for him and now a visitor has unexpectedly shown up and you have nothing to give him this is a serious covenant situation you can’t offer him nothing you have to offer him something so what are you going to do go to the neighbor and ask him to borrow something what neighbor would say no is what Yeshua is saying modern day it would be like this suppose that one of you had a father an elderly father who in the middle of the night had a heart attack and you had 3 children you went to the neighbor next door and you said could you please watch my children I’m in an emergency situation I’ve got to get in the car and drive to the other side of town to be with my father who has had a heart attack could you please watch my children for the rest of the night until morning what man would say no, I’m in bed my children are asleep go away I won’t help you the answer being nobody would say that that’s what Yeshua is saying nobody would say that who among you would have a man suppose somebody had a friend that would say that no nobody would say that but then we get down to verse 8 and I tell you even though the man will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend he’s not going to get up because of his friend but because of his one version says importunity another says persistence that is a wrong translation of that word that word is actually in the Greek anaideia, anaideia and what that actually means is because of his boldness or literally his shamelessness, his covenant boldness what that means is this man who’s had an emergency comes in and says please I implore you I’ve had a visitor show up would you please get up and give me what I need for my visitor for the person who’s shown up what person would say no and he won’t do it because of his friendship he’ll do it because it’s an emergency situation he understands it and of course he would get up what man wouldn’t that’s what Yeshua is saying what neighbor would say no I’m asleep I’m in bed I don’t care that your father has had a heart attack go away Yeshua is saying nobody would do that and then he goes into the second part in verse 9 saying of course your heavenly Father would do that even more than a neighbor so if you ask of course He’ll give you if you seek of course you’ll find if you knock of course it will be opened to you because if you being wicked fathers know how to give good things to your children he goes on to say how much more would your heavenly Father give to you everyone who seeks, finds everyone who knocks it’s opened to him this is story about the incredibly generous heart of God that says of course I will give to you I love you I will not withhold from you this is not about persistence and having to beat the door down to get God to do something this is about the incredibly generous heart of the Father who says more than even a neighbor who of course would get up and help you in an emergency situation how much more would your heavenly Father do that for you just because He loves you that’s what Yeshua is saying here I hope you get a revelation of that that your Father loves you so much when you seek of course you will find when you knock of course He will open the door to you and this is what Yeshua is saying it will be given to you you will find, it will be opened for you so come with boldness before your Father just like this man came with boldness to his neighbor because he had an emergency come with boldness before your Father He loves to help you He loves to give to you that’s what this is talking about the generous heart of the Father who loves to give to you let me pray Father I pray for everyone of us that we get a revelation of your generous heart that we understand that you love us that we don’t have to beat the door down to try to force you in persistence to give to us you want to, you love us Father would you give each one of us that revelation in the mighty name of your son Messiah Yeshua Amen
